IN-SIGHT Enterprises is now the official fulfillment center for DOGS WHO CARE™, the foundation founded by a five pound pooch to raise money for “little guy” animal shelters around the country. The two companies worked together this summer to develop a system for IN-SIGHT’s visually impaired employees to pack, label and mail out orders for DOGS WHO CARE Collars sold at www.dogswhocare.com.
Dogs Who Care was founded by native Rhode Islander, Elly McGuire and her Yorkshire terrier, Schmitty, to help displaced and homeless animals after the tsunami, the 2005 hurricanes and now everyday life. The unique Dogs Who Care collar was inspired by the Lance Armstrong LIVESTRONG cancer awareness bracelet. 100% of the proceeds are donated to a growing network of no-kill animal shelters across the country.
Schmitty’s good deeds and irresistible good looks have brought her both national and international attention. Schmitty has appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and ACCESS Hollywood. Schmitty also made her international debut in Japan on the Fuji TV Network’s morning show, Mezamashi TV (Wake Up TV!) with 20 million viewers tuning in.
“I hope this fun partnership will inspire more companies across the country to provide work for people who are blind and visually impaired,” Elly said.
Elly and Schmitty found IN-SIGHT through Elly’s mom, who is a member of an IN-SIGHT support group and has also received other services from the agency. After taking a tour of the IN-SIGHT workshop, Elly realized that there was a great opportunity for her to overcome one of her biggest obstacles - keeping up with all of the orders that were flowing in.
As Elly explains it, she lives in a modest size apartment in New York City. As Schmitty’s product line grew to include greeting cards, calendars, plush dolls, jewelry, postcards, and magnets, it became more difficult to warehouse and ship the products throughout the world from her living room.
Transferring the warehousing and order fulfillment to IN-SIGHT was an easy solution. IN-SIGHT’s East Providence facility had plenty of room to store the dozens of boxes of Schmitty products and the staff felt confident that they could work out a process to make sure that the correct products were shipped to the right people.
